Monday, July 20, 2009

The government of Sarawak places great importance to the development of parks and open spaces in cities and townships in the State. The vision of creating Kuching as a Garden City pionners the greening programme of all our major towns and cities in Sarawak. Participating in the 'sponsoring the park and green program' is part of the Council of the City of Kuching South's effort to promote community bonding and enhance social cohesion in the community.

PUSAKA (STIDC), a government statutory body, who plays its fundamental roles in planning, co-coordinating and developing the timber industry in Sarawak towards optimum and efficient utilization of timber resources has agreed to sponsor RM50,000.00 for the Kuching Festival Garden Show 2009 as part of their corporate social responsibility to the people of Kuching. The Garden Show will be held from 31st July to 24th August 2009 at the usual venue i.e. Kuching Park. Jalan Padungan. A wide variety of plants ranging from trees, palms, orchids, and indoor plants will be incorporated in all the garden displays. Various exotics plants will also be displayed in the garden show to create awareness among the public on the importance of conversation of our floral and fauna.

I would like to take this opportunity to express the Council sincere appreciation and gratitude to YBhg Datu Haji Len Talif Salleh, the General Manager of STIDC for the support and financial contributions which made the Kuching Festival Garden Show a reality. Assuming the office of General Manager of STIDC. YBhg Datu Haji who is also the Director of Forest, CEO of Sarawak Forestry Corporation as well as the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Resource Planning has proved and continued to be dynamic catalyst for changes that have affected the entire Sate timber industry, bringing it to great heights and making STIDC, the leader and catalyst of timber industry in Malaysia.

The people of Kuching owe PUSAKA (STIDC) a big thank you for the exemplary acts. Through the Kuching Festival Garden Show, I hope Kuchingnites will seize the opportunity to take greater ownership of our Garden City and do even more through their creativity, imagination and energies.
